Jordyn's Capstone Project!
Jordyn's Capstone project is based around growing mushrooms using the school's cold compost. She has chosen two different species of edible mushrooms and she will hopefully conclude which species grows most abundantly. Now, as you can see, Jordyn has three bins but only two species. The bin on the far left contains King Stropharia spawn on Oak shavings, the middle bin contains the Oyster Mushroom spawn on Oak shavings, and the far right bin is her "control" which contains just compost and Oak shavings. The difference between mushroom spores and mushroom spawn is spores is basically the seeds of the mushroom, and spawn means the mycelium, or roots, have already began to grow on the shavings. She will collect data on the diameter and circumference of the first five mushrooms that begin to become visible, the mushroom quantity of each mushroom species, and the mass of the five mushrooms that became visible first at the end of the data collection process. The data Jordyn will collect that doesn't include the mushrooms is the temperature outside and inside the bins, cloud cover, and precipitation.
